This concert celebrates the converging
spheres of Paul Dean: composer,
clarinettist and educator. Dean joins
the young musicians of ANAM for a
performance of Beethoven's beloved
quintet for piano and winds.
He discusses the political and personal
meaning of his compositions, before
the unveiling of a new work, Converging
Spheres. The concert concludes with his
striking Abyss of 2009, featuring violinist
Ji Won Kim, winner of the ABC Young
Performers' Award, and dedicated
to the 353 people who drowned when
the SIEVX sank off the coast of Western
Australia in 2001.
