Celebrated Australian pianist Piers Lane
joins Fiona Sargeant, Acting Principal
Viola of the Melbourne Symphony, for
the first of our celebrations of Liszt,
in the 200th anniversary of his birth.
In this program of wandering, we visit
Obermann's Valley from Liszt's first
book of Annees de pelerinage. We are
then treated to a rare performance of
Berlioz's, Harold in Italy, inspired by
his wanderings in the Abruzzi.
In this astonishing transcription by
Liszt, the viola maintains its role as
'melancholy dreamer' while the piano
contains an entire orchestra.
Presented in association with Musica Viva Australia.
